Another new attempt to take share of the two wheeler market by Bajaj Auto ! They are planning to re-introduce two stroke bikes in Indian Market. First of all Two strokes are all about higher torque , faster pickup and better vehicle stability due to the smaller engine. Then, why any company is not selling two stroke bikes in india? The reason is the strict(Yes it is! Emission norms are strict in India compared to many developed countries) emission norms in India. Two strokes are notorious for the pollution it creates. But what made Bajaj to introduce two strokes again in a country with such strict restrictions? Its the GDi . GDi stands for Gasoline Direct Injection . The technology is superior with increased mileage and substantially less emission compared to older two strokes. This technology was invented 60 years back during World War 2 to use in war planes. Later it was developed and polished by giants like Bosh and even Mercs for four stroke car engines.

The benefits of direct injection are even more pronounced in two-stroke engines, because it eliminates much of the pollution they cause. In conventional two-strokes, the exhaust and intake ports are both open at the same time, at the bottom of the piston stroke. A large portion of the fuel/air mixture entering the cylinder from the crankcase through the intake ports goes directly out, unburned, through the exhaust port. With direct injection, only air comes from the crankcase, and fuel is not injected until the piston rises and all ports are closed.

Bajaj has already launched Three wheelers with GDi engine .The engine also meets the stringent emission norms with 50% lower carbon monoxide ((CO) and 25% lower hydrocarbons and nitrous oxides (HC+NOx) .

As said in economic times by a senior Bajaj Auto executive -

“It is a big leap in the two-stroke technology and we are working to get it on our bikes and other two-wheelers. The gasoline direct injection (GDi) engine has substantially lower emissions than even alternate clean fuels like CNG and LPG. Additionally, it has lower operating costs than four-stroke technology that currently dominates the bike market.”

Bajaj Auto is likely to customize the GDi technology for its two-wheeler products in the next few months. The two-stroke engine had been a success in the past due to its higher torque (power), faster pickup and better vehicle stability due to the smaller engine. In GDi technology, the fuel is injected through a common rail fuel line directly into the engine’s combustion chamber where it is completely burnt unlike the conventional carburettor-run two-stroke engine which leaves out unburnt fuel and results in higher emission.

If that happens, i am sure that we still have a large section of youth who loves to hear that two stroke sound! Count me also!

Man its sexy!”..For a second i was shocked.Pulsar 300cc? Meanwhile he opened the spec sheet.. Monoshock, dual front disc, rear disc,……

Err..I was sure that it will be another hoax! And seeing the picture of so called BajajPulsar 300cc , i confirmed it. But i should say , it really looks great even though its a photoshopped image.

Currently there are many versions of these photoshopped images claiming that they are pulsar 300cc.

Currently Bajaj has no ‘Official’ Plans to release a 300cc Version of Pulsar Series.Who ever started this hoax by editing this picture , i admire him for his creativity.

I was going through my routine blog dose and found this interesting post in The Bike Chronicles of India by Payeng , which is undoubtfully the most repected biking blog in India.

He points to the news of yamaha launching liter class bikes in India ( yea..start dreaming!!) .But the thing is , they bring it as CBU(Completely Built Units) which is almost equal to the price given to an imported Bike. So , we Indians ,with our roads and our pockets, and ofcourse our traffic, mind to pay 1 milion rupees for getting a super bike ? As payeng says,

“I have to get married, buy a house, have kids, save for their education, buy a car and save for my retirement..!! From where the hell can I afford the 10 lakh needed for the R1..??”

Its not that i am that old,(just on my early 20s) , but i know how hard it would be for me to spend out 10 lakh bucks for a bike.(Unless i win a jackpot any soon!) . I know how hard it is to earn enough for a decent life. I know how harsh it would be to ride a CBR to a party after sending my family in a cab.

Then , what if the japs starts building super bikes here in India? I mean, if they can sell a 1000cc bike for 4~5 lakhs, would it be a nice idea to buy it? Yes, it is. Only if the roads here become to a better state. What should i do with a 1000cc between my legs and never get a chance to utilize atleast 1/4th of its power? Just like Payeng said, i will opt for 250cc Twin for my commutes than a liter class bike in my garage.

Few days back , i found another blog post by rearset who is the one who brings the latest scoops in indian biking industry. He says

...I’d rather ride an R1 slowly through
a pothole than not ride one at all…

I am not offending him. But whats the difference between riding an R1 slowly through potholes and a Platina in similar roads? Apart from the drooling stares you get , in both cases your bikes get damaged and the adreline is almost zero. And for a platina a bend fork or damaged shocks will set you back by a 1000 bucks. But for an R1? Think guys …THINK!

I would also suggest you all to pay a visit to this blog post by first_synn . As he says ,

if any one can give me a 1000 CC bike that looks like Eva Longoria on two wheels, with 100 BHp of raw power and 100KM/l mileage and price it at Rs 50,000, I shall WORSHIP you and drink the water that washes your feet.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is planning to launch a whole range of 100 cc entry-level motorcycles to tap the Indian bike market’s biggest segment.

At the launch of a sporty variant and a limited edition Grand Prix version of the Unicorn, HMSI CEO and president Yukihiro Aoshima said: “As long as the 100 cc market continues to grow, we will introduce not one model but several.”

And although it is fellow subsidiary Hero Honda’s bread and butter market, it is big enough for both companies so there should be no cannibalisation. “Of course, 100 cc is Hero Honda’s major segment but it’s size is also the biggest in the motorcycle market. So there is more room for both companies to co-exist,” Mr Aoshima said.

At the other end of the price band, HMSI is also looking at importing fully built bikes in the 500cc and above range. “We are studying the higher displacement segment and here there are two possibilities open to us,” Mr Aoshima said.

“The first is to go for 500 cc and above models where we may look at importing completely built units. But for models less than 500 cc engine displacement, we must study options to assemble them here.”

HMSI’s 100 cc plans also tie in with its second plant which will kick off once its 1.2 million unit Manesar plant has been fully utilised. The company, which sold 7.2 lakh units this fisc, is targetting 9 lakh units next year including 6 lakh motorcycles.

HMSI — which launched the Sporty Unicorn at Rs 58,150 and Unicorn Grand Prix limited edition at Rs 59,425 ex-showroom Delhi — exported around 25,000 motorcycles this year and is targetting a similar number next year as well.

“We are selling to Europe, Middle East, central and south America now and we are also targetting Africa,” Mr Aoshima said.

Starting April 1, two-wheelers from Bajaj and Hero Honda stable are likely to cost an extra Rs 1,000 as Steel prices have increased by about Rs 500 per tonne post-budget.

Market leader Hero Honda is currently running a discount scheme of Rs 1,001 on its models which include Glamour, Splendour and Passion plus. According to sources the company is likely to withdraw the discount scheme in three-four weeks.

Bajaj officials were not available for comment. Chennai-based TVS, however, has ruled any immediate correction in the prices of its bikes. TVS Motor VP marketing Prasad Narsimhan said, “We have no plans to increase prices on our bikes for any reasons in the near future.”

Meanwhile, Bajaj has discontinued the 0% interest rate scheme on its 100 cc bike Platina and replaced it with a Rs 2,000 discount. The discount is unlikely to trigger a price war in the entry-level bike segment but it is expected to help Bajaj exit the 100 cc segment.

Sources say that Bajaj is looking to exit the 100 cc segment, as per its long-standing plan, by the end of Q1 FY 08. Sources also say that Bajaj is likely to reduce prices of its 100 cc bikes further in the months to come to clear stock before launching its new platform in the second quarter of FY 08. The company is currently working towards launching higher-powered bikes that will target the 100 cc consumer segment with a better value for money proposition.

GO TO 2nd Updated Post of pulsaR 220cc DTS-Fi

Lot of people came here after searching for bajaj Pulsar Dts-Fi 225cc bike on google. For their info al the information given here are not confirmed.Bajaj Auto limited havnt confirmed about the launch time/price/engine performance. I heard about this bike from the auto expo`06 news on a News Paper.I searched a lot for its pics and details. Why should the company keep it as a secret? Any way i am grouping the data that i collected from various sources. Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi – A real performer bike from bajaj. A 225 cc engine, 21 bhp, oilcooled! , DTS-FI (Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection) …. Thats what the indian bikers waited for. Now we have to wait for the price.I think it will be some where around 90k. But even then its a nice price comparing the performance it gives. It comes with a superb instrument panel which is digital and cool looking handle bar( just like the 3 piece handle we use in modded bikes) . The silencer of the new Bajaj Pulsar Dtsfi seems to be a heavy one.The tail lamp is a sporty looking LED (Like the one used in Traffic signals) .You can also see a half naked chain assembly. Head lamp assebly seems to be redesigned from scratch by bajaj designers.A Projector Beam Headlamp and Fairing mounted mirrors adds to the sporty look. It seems to have a dual seat and a bold looking rubber/plastic scales over petrol tank extending from the seat.Petrol tank and side panels are shared from the curent generation( Petrol tank and side panel gives it a MALE look!) .Then it has a rear disc! and much bigger wheels. So finally we got a bike with coalescence of power , beauty, economy(Since its from bajaj) , and performance.Concluding it here are the expected specs of the new Bajaj Pulsar Dts-fi 225cc bike are .. 225cc Engine 21 bhp Oil cooled DTS-FI (Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection) Rear Disc Clip On handlebars Digital Instrumentation New exhaust system Longer swing arm LED Tail lamps Protector Beam Headlamp Fairing mounted mirrors New body panels If they price it right, it’ll be the next hit. Given the majorly shared parts with the older Pulsars (hence no fresh look ) that should be doable – price wise.
